It's been a rough few days for Colin. This past Saturday we decided to try peanut butter. Our Ped recommended to wait until he's 2 yrs old to give it a try. But since we don't have a history of peanut allergies in either of our families, we figured that 20 months old is close enough. Plus, it would be nice to give him a peanut butter & jelly sandwich once in awhile for lunch. So we gave him 1 cracker with some peanut butter on it. Within 5 minutes he was vomiting. We thought maybe it was the consistency, maybe some got stuck in his throat. Within about 10min he had hives from head to toe. He was scratching so hard he was bleeding :( We gave him some Benadryl and a bath and that seemed to do the trick. Thank goodness because it could've been so much worse! But it was enough to make me feel horribly guilty for even trying. I guess we had to find out somehow though and it's better that we were at home when we did it.
Then yesterday he wakes up throwing up uncontrollably. After about 6 rounds, he calms down and almost seems like himself. I put him down for his nap and 2.5hrs later he wakes up crying and throwing up some more. I get him cleaned up and we head downstairs. I noticed he was stuffed up pretty bad and not really into playing or anything, so we took it easy. Around 5pm the vomiting starts again. I felt so bad for him. At one point we were both crying and he was just sitting in my lap in the middle of the kitchen. It breaks my heart when he's that sick. The rest of the evening we just cuddled on the couch until Scott got home, and then he took over. By then Colin could barely breathe through his nose and he was chugging water like crazy. When it was PJ time, Colin willingly laid there while we got him changed (which is a rare occurance in our house). We gave him some cold medicine and off to bed he went and slept for the night.
Scott's home with him today, so hopefully it's a better day!
